Handouts:
1-2-3 Guide to Effective Herbal Medicine-Updated Version, 250 pages This 250 page manual is packed FULL of information. It costs about $25 to have printed and bound at a local print shop in Rexburg.
See below for for the link to a shortened version of the book that is 94 pages, and contains all the information we discussed in class WITHOUT the Single Herb Monographs and the Herbs by Body System Section. The shortened version costs about $11.00 to have printed and bound.
UPDATED!! New Version is 250 pages, expanded to include "Herbs by Body System" AND Single Herbs!
This is the guide that is used in the Intro to Herbal Medicine Class. It has step-by-step instructions, with all the reference information you will need to practice the principles I taught in class, and start using herbs in your home and get the results you want
1-2-3 Guide, Shortened Version-this is a good option if you want the information we discuss in class, but want a cheaper option than printing the full 250 page Manual. This version has everything the full version does, EXCEPT the Single Herb Monographs and Herbs by Body System Section. 94 pages, about $11.00 to have printed and bound at a local print shop
Herbs vs. Drugs "Why Herbs are Such Powerful Healers" Preparedness Fair Handout
Herbal Actions & Uses-Quick Reference -Herbs are categorized by their therapeutic action in the body. The very best way to become proficient in understanding and using herbs is to know the different therapeutic actions, and the best herbs in each category. Use this guide as a quick reference to the different categories and when to use them. This would be a good handout to put in your Emergency Preparedness herb binder. It is included in the 1-2-3 Guide to Herbal Medicine.
Combo Recipes and Detailed Info about each Blend-This file is provided by Laree Westover, of Butterfly Expressions. Many of her Combo's are adapted from traditional Dr. Christopher Formulas. You can purchase them tinctured, and ready to take, from https://www.butterflyexpress.org/OR purchase the "Dry Herb Pack", which is the recipe, pre mixed, ready to dump in a jar with 80 proof alcohol, to tincture yourself OR you can make it yourself with the recipe provided. AND your knowledge of the different herbal actions would allow you to swap herbs in the recipe for ones of the same action, allowing to use the herbs you already have in your home :-)
Video: How to make tinctures (by our friends at Butterfly Expressions) Only 7 minutes long...easy peesy. She is making a recipe from the Butterfly Herbal book
Homegrown Herbalist You Tube Channel-Doc Jones does a lot of short, informational videos on all things herbal. A great channel to follow to continually learn more about common herbs in short, easy to listen to videos. Doc Jones is also the herbalist behind the Homegrown School of Botanical Medicine mentioned below.
Link to a great beginner book-Butterfly Miracles with Herbal Remedies-I love this book because it teaches about the therapeutic action of herbs, and the best herbs in each category, as well as having a section of GREAT formulas, which you can make using the recipe, purchase the dry herb pack already measured out to make yourself, or purchase the ready made tincture
**The SINGLE HERB write-ups in these files are NOW INCLUDED in the updated 250 page 1-2-3 Guide that aligns with the Intro to Herbal Medicine class.**
-these files are from the write-ups I did each month when we did our bulk-buy herb group. The herbs featured are the best herbs to have and know how to use in an emergency. Print the files and put them in a binder so you have access to the info in a grid-down or emergency situation. The focus of the herb binder is on having about individual 40 herbs in your home, and knowing how to combine them to treat a wide variety of conditions. The Herb Binder Write-Ups were primarily geared for those who wanted to have herbs stored for an emergency, with information on how to use them when the need arose. The information on single herbs would be a great companion to the information in the 1-2-3 Guide to Herbal Medicine I use in the Intro to Herbal Medicine Class
Ready to Learn More??-Here are two online classes from Centre of Excellence I highly recommend. It is produced in the UK, and the price is listed in British pounds. **every few months the classes go on sale for 29 pounds (about $50). I strongly recommend purchasing the written materials. It is a spiral bound book you can take notes in, and is very handy for reference!!The program is online, and can be completed at your own pace, with lifetime access. These really are great herbal programs:
1) The Master Herbalist program is a great place to start, especially if you are just beginning. It covers material to about the same depth as the green Butterfly book I mentioned in class (see link on this page)
2) If you are a little more experienced, and thoroughly familiar with the contents of the green Butterfly book (or a similar basic herbal book), the Advanced Master Herbalist program might be a good place for you to start.
Additionally, Homegrown Herbalist and Butterfly Express offer classes that are very worthwhile! Homegrown Herbalist herb school is all online. It is the most comprehensive program I've listed here, and takes about a year to complete. New information is constantly being added, they offer Masters Seminars, local herb walks, etc. I highly recommend it, if you want to really dig in and become a practical herbalist. It is pricey ($799,but well worth it). They offer payment plans, and offer a 2 for 1 special, where you can split the cost with a friend. If you take this course, contact me, and I'll give you some very valuable tips as to how to create a reference book as you go, as this class doesn't come with written materials.
Butterfly Express has classes on herbs, homeopathy, essential oils and more, in person in Clifton, Idaho. They are very affordable, and are usually a series of weekend classes. Follow the link above for more details. These are also highly recommended. If you are looking for a good herbal medicine program, remember to find one that teaches about the therapeutic actions in plants, not only teaches how to use ready made formulas. Herbal medicine is about plants, not products.
Facebook Groups- I created a Facebook group called Dr. Mom: Empowering Yourself to Take Charge of Your Families Healthas a place for people to ask questions, and for me to post my favorite natural healing tip & tricks, and share information. Here is a link to join the Facebook group. Every time new info is posted, I add it to a google doc, here.
